Tomorrow, it’ll be the 20th anniversary of our company’s incorporation!

Back in 2001, when I started the company, it was a complete (and naïve) leap of faith into the unknown. Like many before me, I started with no capital, no experience, no product, and only a vague idea that I wanted to create a business that had something to do with computer software.

We all need a lucky break!

It was only by chance that the idea for BackupAssist came across my path, and probably a lot of good timing that it became successful. After the initial “lucky break”, a lot of hard work ensued as we built our company and reputation one customer and one sale at a time.

I’m super grateful to have met the right partners and hired some amazing people to help along the journey. We’ve outlasted many competitors along the way, and I’m sure that’s due to our never-ending focus on delivering excellence to our clients.

Thank you, thank you, thank you

I’d like to thank every one of you reading this newsletter today.

Thank you for sharing this journey together, through multiple major paradigm shifts in technology.

Thank you for purchasing our products and supporting our company. You’ve enabled me and over a hundred of our employees to pay their bills, put gas in the car, and send our children to school.

You’ve also helped us support nearly 100 children through World Vision, many of whom have now graduated from school.

As I reflect on the last two decades, it’s something of a miracle that you’re reading this today. So many companies never make it past 1 year, let alone 20, especially given the current global pandemic.

Our commitment to the future

Let me reaffirm our commitment to delivering software products and SaaS that provide compelling value with outstanding service. It’s what we’ve always done, and what we’ll continue to do.

I think companies like ours are rare nowadays – and I’m quite glad we grew our business organically and by focusing on client needs. As humorous as TV shows like Silicon Valley are, there’s so much truth that when founders focus on raising capital instead of building a great team and serving clients, it’s easy to spend time and effort on the wrong things.

That’s why you’ll notice that I still talk to customers on a daily basis, I still contribute to the product roadmap and plan out features… that’s much more interesting than sitting in a crystal palace!

Don’t be shy!

Before I ramble on too much, let me just say that we’d love to hear feedback from you as we celebrate 20 years in June – don’t hesitate to reach out!

And watch out for some special promotions in the coming month.

Until next time – best wishes.

Linus
